Steph DragonHeart’s answer:
Oh, really?
Let’s do the opposite and see what happens.
I’m not interested in following anyone else’s rules. Not anymore.
When I created The Awakened Business, I wanted to help entrepreneurs grow without the hustle and hype. It would be a sanctuary for marketing that feels good. All of which was wonderful, and I still love.
But I didn’t realize that even my “awakened” version of business was still operating in the same old box. (This is what most heart-centered marketing teachers do – they ditch the most offensive tactics, soften the rest, and slap a “soulful” label on it.)
When I started out, it was genuine. I was doing business differently, but it was still recognizable as business.
Until this dragon outgrew her skin.
Now it seems to me that the best business plan, marketing strategy or brand is simple:
You. Being you.
Doing what you want, how you want, when you want. Saying what you mean.
Not holding back.
And making such a difference by being radically yourself that you actually get paid for it.
That’s not “business” anymore.
It’s living your one, wild and precious life exactly as you choose. Fiercely. Unapologetically. As love-in-action.
Sure, there’s still a learning curve, but it’s a joyful one, because of the undeniable spark of aliveness that happens when you live your truest desires.
Your unique path won’t require contorting yourself to fit into someone else’s box or forcing yourself to take actions that don’t feel right.
A rose doesn’t need to identify a customer avatar to attract the right insects. It just blooms. Its nature takes care of the rest.
I know the message, “being you in business is the only marketing strategy you need” sounds radical.
“You mean I don’t have to create my business the way ‘they’ say?”
You can if you want to. I’m not even saying it’s a bad idea.
I’ve just realized (just! after years of quietly rebelling) that I’ve been coloring inside someone else’s lines.
And now, I’m done with that.
Now I’m questioning the assumptions and challenging the narrative. Not because I have to, but because it actually feels like me.
What can I get away with?
I’ll bump up against resistance. I’ll try things that don’t work.
But every step of the way it will be me.
My business. My life. My way.
It starts with waking up to who you really are. Listening to what you know. Following your desires.
