Don’t. Give. Up.
In everything I’ve ever accomplished, there was a moment (more likely several hundred thousand of them) where I felt like giving up.
Man, I was horrible! Compared to the other students flying around the pole like ballerina fairies and sashaying like divas, I was the clumsy hippopotamus. Confused at every turn. It was a triumph just to be facing the right direction.
Three years later, I’m the strongest in my home studio in conditioning strength. I’m dancing choreos and even creating my own.
Writing.
In 2020 I took the NaNoWriMo challenge to write 50,000 words in a month. By day three of trying to crank out 1,666 words a day, I wanted to slit my own throat. (Metaphorically. Very mean inner critic.)
So I “murdered” my inner critic instead – or at least made it hibernate for those 30 days – and kept going. I ended up with the first draft of a novel I never dreamed I could write.
Coaching.
My first internet marketing course told me to do some free discovery calls and then start selling $97 consulting sessions. So I did.
I had no idea what I was doing. As a coach, I had no training. But I could listen to people. I started learning. I got training.
And now I make a full-time living as a coach blessed every day to watch people come awake and alive in their lives and businesses.
I’m not going to give you the long, long, long, list of things I wanted to do or try that I never even attempted, or the ones I gave up on because I talked myself out of them.
But that was before I knew what I know now.
The secret to creating a profitable business?
The magic formula for getting good at anything?
The success model to end all success models?
This is it:
Choose something. Stick with it. Cool things will happen.
And even better…
You don’t have to take discouragement seriously.
Really.
It doesn’t mean anything when you think, “You can’t do this. Everyone else is better. Who do you think you are?”
It’s nothing but a random thought that has absolutely no power. Unless we give it our attention.
And now I know that I don’t have to give it my attention. Ever. Doing so has no benefit.
It’s just noisy static whose only useful purpose is to remind me to quiet down and listen to the voice of my soul.
Becoming discouragement proof is a real thing.
