The Weightless AnchorOnce there were two changemakers, people who care deeply about the world.

Both had difficult childhoods. Both made a choice to improve themselves to grow.

Both changemakers took courses, went to retreats, attended classes and got certifications. They volunteered, made helping a part of their livelihoods. They were already making a difference in the lives of others and their communities every day.

These changemakers were the same in almost every way, with one difference.

One is exhausted. The other is fulfilled.

What made the difference?

It wasn’t their skill, impact or commitment.

The difference is where they look for fulfillment.

The first changemaker saw a world in need of fixing, and made it their job, their calling, and even their obligation, to fix it. If they didn’t do enough, the world would suffer.

So they pushed. Worked harder and gave more, trying to hold it all together.

The more they gave, the heavier their calling became. Pressure, guilt and exhaustion. Until they had no choice but to stop.

The second changemaker also saw a world they’d like to change, but here is what looks different. They don’t try to change the world to feel fulfilled and happy.

They started somewhere simpler and closer.

They looked within for what is true for them. They follow what they truly desire, what they know, and what makes sense.

They discovered what they love to do and make a difference doing it. It’s energizing and sustainable, because it’s what they would want to do…even if the world does not change.

There is a path of making a difference and a living that doesn’t burn you out. It doesn’t start with fixing the world. It begins with being you. Living your life. Pursuing what brings you joy.

And then, you create beauty, harmony and service in the world around you.

It feels natural because it is natural.

The recipe for a life you love and the impact you’re here to create is already giving you signs and nudges.

You’ll know it by the people and the places that inexplicably draw you.

You’ll know it by the opportunities that feel like a deep Yes in your body.

You’ll know it by the dreams that keep coming back, no matter how many times you’ve talked yourself out of them.

When you turn your attention to what’s actually here, your next step becomes clear. Your way of contributing starts to feel like you again.

If you’ve been feeling on the edge of burnout, questioning whether what you’re doing is sustainable, this is the conversation.
