a woman in a forest with a knapsack in her backI’ve been questioning part of the message I’ve been sharing lately.

Not because I don’t know if it’s true, but because it may be only part of the story, and one easily misunderstood.

This message can be summed up as:

“You can just do things.”

It doesn’t matter what you think. It doesn’t matter what you feel. Thoughts and feelings create your experience, but they can’t stop you (unless you let them).

On the one hand, it’s inspiring.

You can do anything. Nothing can stop you. Go, team, go!

On the other hand, it can sound like a dismissal of your experience.

So what if you’re feeling depressed? Snap out of it and take action.

Who cares if you’re so overwhelmed you’re collapsing in exhaustion? You can do it, kiddo.

That’s not what I’m saying, and it certainly wasn’t my intention.

It may have come out that way because I’ve been repressing or denying my own feelings for most of my life. Only recently have I realized just how good at hiding my excitement, hyperactivity and sensitivity I’d become.

As I’m seeing this afresh for myself, it may be time to revisit how I’ve been expressing what I really mean to say. Something more like this:

Yes, you can just do things, no matter what you think or feel. But that doesn’t mean you have to, and it doesn’t mean you should.

When your body is tired, give it rest.

When your mind is busy, let it settle.

Listening to your feelings gives you clear guidance, not about what to do, but your state of mind.

A troubled mind is a reminder to slow down, get quiet and look within for what to do. It’s not a blanket declaration that you should, “Charge ahead no matter what!”

So what I’m trying to say is…

I’m sorry if anything I’ve said or written has sounded like you should deny your experience or that I was doing so.

Your experience, no matter what it may be, is valid. It is meant to be felt fully.

And it also doesn’t mean what it feels like it means. The story it tells comes from an unreliable narrator.

Anyone can “just do things.”

But only you know what’s yours to do.

If you’ve been feeling tension and are unsure whether to move or pause, book a DragonHeart Portal conversation. It’s a place of listening to your heart and soul about what’s yours to do right now.
Yours in love and play,
