A rustic wooden menu titled "Thought Menu" rests on a table, with negative thoughts crossed out by a pen and positive alternatives listed below.

Yesterday, my mind delivered me a thought.

“You are damaged. Doomed to repeat the patterns of your past.”

It was a truly horrible thought, a life sentence on my soul.

I believed it, and my mind was my master.

Today, my mind delivered me a thought.

“There you go – playing the victim again. Broken, just like I told you.”

I bowed my head, ready to accept the judgement, as I had so many times before.

Then something interrupted. I looked back at my mind and said:
“No! I refuse that thought. Bring me another.”

And immediately, my mind did.

“You attract these types of situations,” it said.

Now I was onto the trick.

“No! Not good enough. Fetch me a new thought,” I commanded.

And my mind obeyed.

It brought me a new thought.

Each time I refused and demanded another, it was forced to comply.

Eventually, a thought came that filled my soul with light.

Something was different.

My mind wasn’t my master anymore.

I saw it was a remarkably creative thought machine.

And I didn’t have to believe every thought it served up.

This little story was inspired by Marina Galán’s beautiful presentation:

“Unsubscribe From Your Story: How to Live a Ridiculously Good Life After Sexual Abuse.”

It’s one of those talks that completely rearranges your relationship with yourself.

If you’re open to a fresh, deeply compassionate perspective on thought, identity, and healing – without the sugar-coating – I think you’ll find it well worth your time.
