A close-up photograph of a person wearing worn blue canvas sneakers, taking a first step forward on a moss-covered stepping stone path that winds through a lush, sun-dappled garden.

A while ago I asked a question:

“Which of these feels most true for you right now?”

Then I gave six plausible responses to choose from. I thought the answers might be all over the place.

They weren’t.

3 people responded:
“I know what I want to create, but I keep getting stuck in my head.”

3 others responded:
“I keep working on everything except the thing that matters most.”

One person said:
“Weirdly, all of them.” 🤪

The most interesting observation to me isn’t that people procrastinate. Putting stuff off is wonderfully, ordinarily human experience. It’s this:

No one said they didn’t know what they wanted to do.

The thing that looked like it was stopping them was entirely internal.

“I know what to do, but…”

I see a lot of people get stuck trying to figure out WHY they aren’t moving forward with the thing they clearly want to do.

The longer I coach, the less interested I am in asking why.

Occasionally, it’s useful to understand why we do things, but most often asking, “Why do I do this?” sends us more into our heads.

This question is much more interesting:

“What do I know to do next?”

Because you always know something. Even if it’s so teeny tiny it feels unsatisfying.

So I’m going to create a little something to nudge you in that direction, The Next Natural Step.

It’s for those moments you know what matters, and you kinda know what to do, but you still aren’t moving on it.

I’m still listening as I build this.

Like it? Love it? Unmoved?

If you have thoughts, questions or would like to share your own experience, please reply. I’d love to hear from you.

Yours in love and play,
