Part 1: Two Truths and a Lie
You may have noticed…
I’m pretty open about my life and not particularly shy about sharing what’s going on. For better or worse.
But there are a few things you might not know about me. I thought it’s time to test your knowledge – and have some fun with it.
Two of these statements are TRUE, but the other is a LIE.
- I once rode on the back of a wild turkey.
- I was a cheerleader in high school.
- My biggest teen crushes were Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery.
Can you pick out the lie?
Comment below and tell me what I’m fibbing about. If you get it right, I’ll send you a Mystery Prize!
I’ll make the big reveal and share some juicy stories in an upcoming email.
You have 24 hours to respond for your chance to win something you have no idea if you’ll enjoy. (You will, though. I’d bet my dragon lashes on it.) 👁🗨
Part 2: Unveiling the Mystery
I’m sitting on the floor of my apartment in Quarteira, Portugal with my laptop on my legs, typing away.
This morning I shuffled my usual routine to write before moving my body. Why?
Because this writing feels fun and I’m inspired. It’s so gorgeous to let the inspiration take me.
A few days ago, I played the game Two Truths and a Lie with those on my daily email list, promising a Mystery Prize to those who guessed correctly.
Congratulations, Jeff Kelton and Jamie Waltz! You know me well.
Each received a personal video from me sharing what I appreciate about them. Creating these videos was a joy because feelings of appreciation bless the giver, even before they are received. Watching myself makeup-free, with lines and puffy eyes, I’m shocked to find myself adorably human. Perhaps that’s the power of gratitude in action.
(Also a note for future game: Mystery Prizes are fun, but you gotta be in it to win it!)
So now, I shall elucidate the Truths and the Lie.
#1 – I once rode on the back of a wild turkey.
TRUE!
While wild turkeys cannot bear the weight of a human I did ride one.
This particular wild turkey happened to be on the merry-go-round at the Bear Mountain Inn pavilion during a wedding I was DJ’ing. I saw the turkey and instantly knew I had to ride it.
I couldn’t find the photo of me riding the turkey, but here is the merry-go-round with the turkey in question.
And an old Facebook post mentioning my turkey ride.
#2 – I was a cheerleader in high school.
This is the LIE.
Teenage Stephanie had great disdain for cheerleaders with their vacuous smiles and their wiggly hips. She would be horrified at the thought of joining them. Plus, she was told she couldn’t dance, and believed it.
Years later, after seeing me in full party-motivating action as a wedding DJ, guests often guessed my previous career as either a cheerleader or a kindergarten teacher.
Both ideas made me cringe.
#3 – My biggest teen crushes were Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery.
TRUE.
While my peers pined for the Backstreet Boys and Leo DiCaprio…
…I taped magazine cut outs of Patrick Stewart and Sean Connery to my wall.
I always had a thing for older guys.
These crushes weren’t lustful. I fell in love with Jean-Luc Picard’s firm yet kind leadership in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Perhaps a reminder of the father I was missing.
I loved the devilish glint in Sean Connery’s eye. His role in the Highlander movie clinched that one for me.
What offer can I make after this silliness?
I’ve recently been challenged about including a call to action and offer to buy in every email. Is it authentic? Is it necessary? And damn, isn’t it kind of cheesy?
Maybe. It depends on what you’re thinking. 😉
It made me consider whether I ought to change. But as I write this, here’s what occurs to me:
I like showing that you can entertain, teach, share, have fun…and still sell stuff.
You don’t have to personally like it, but maybe this helps you take this whole making money and selling thing less seriously.
And it helps pay the bills, allowing me to keep writing and playing with you through my daily emails. I’m getting paid to write, indirectly. What’s not to like about that?
And so…
Today I invite you to join me for a rollicking-good conversation about your Dream. What would you love to create?
Tell me a bit about what inspires you here, and we’ll luxuriate in the expansive energies of infinite possibilities. You’ll emerge with new insights and clarity.
I can’t wait to be inspired by you. 💖
Yours in love and play,
Steph
