Love Money Sprint Day 2

Dear Diary,

Are we really launching Love Money in less than 24 hours?

Seriously, what was I thinking?

The sales page still isn’t done – although at least it contains more than a headline now.

Ryn and I met to discuss the course contents. We have a course outline! Some really juicy explorations emerged.

It looks like this is really happening. On Memorial Day Monday.

Stuff I did today:

 

  • Built a “Coming Soon” landing page.
  • Wrote 3 emails, including this one you’re reading.
  • Drafted the headline, lead, opening story and benefits for the sales letter – about 820 new words and 488 repurposed ones.

I hate the sales letter. I think it’s horrible.

But I think that all the time after writing a first draft. I know enough not to take it seriously. Tomorrow, I’ll re-read it and say, “You know, it’s not half bad!”

Ryn thought it was amazing! Her insecurities are taking a different form:

“Look at Steph go! She doesn’t need me. I’m just holding her back. What am I doing here?”

(Ryn gave me permission to share this so you can see just how nutty our thinking gets and how little it matters.)

I’m making this “writing a sales letter” thing too complicated, but am unable to stop myself. My direct response copywriting training and experience is too strong to overcome.

“This is how you help me, Ryn. Tell me I’m making it too complicated,” I say.

“You’re making it too complicated,” Ryn deadpans.

“Good! Start with a blank page and write a simple offer. Pull anything you want from what I’ve written and scrap the rest. We can jam on it from there.”

Ryn has her marching orders: save Steph from over-complicating things.

We also had a fascinating chat about MARKETING.

The sales letter I’ve drafted starts with a benefit-driven headline and moves into a section that clearly identifies the problem, challenge and desire which the course is meant to solve.

With my business and marketing background, that structure is Marketing 101. Ryn has an entirely different perspective.

She questions the necessity of pointing to the specific undesirable behaviors and experiences people often have around money: avoidance, debt, undercharging, money anxiety.

“I get why it makes sense to address the problems, but do we have to? What if we communicate from a higher frequency?”

I set aside my years of marketing indoctrination to answer the question fresh.

“We don’t have to,” I say. “But if I want to help the person in front of me, saying, ‘I can help you remember who you really are and learn how life works,’ is probably going to be a lot less effective than ‘I can help you dissolve that money anxiety so you know you’re okay, no matter how much you have in the bank.”

I want people to recognize whether or not this course is for them. Let’s tell them what it does right on the label.

Then we tell them how we’re going to get there. There’s no bait and switch, but there is a direct connection between what they really want and what we deliver.

I call this Marketing 101, but it’s really simply clear communication. Be as clear as possible about what you’re doing, who it’s for, and how it will help.

But I also really like the idea of coming from a “higher frequency” because this course isn’t tactical. It’s a practical understanding of how the energy of money works that has spiritual principles behind it – not a how-to guide for making quick cash. It makes sense to convey the difference.

Right now, I’m at the end of my day while she’s just mid-way into hers. Wherever she leaves off, I’ll pick up in the morning.

We. Will. Get. This. Done.

Or not.

How am I feeling?

Purposeful. Relaxed. I have no sense of pressure about the deadline.

This is surprising! And not just to me.

Olly and I spent three hours shopping this afternoon during my prime work hours. Normally, I would have cancelled our plans to focus on work.

But after putting in a few hours this morning – and fretting about the damn sales letter – it felt right to take a break before my meeting with Ryn.

“You even took the time to stop for coffee!” Olly said.

I didn’t recognize how unusual this was until he pointed it out.

There have been brief moments of doubt. Not about whether or not we can pull this off – I’m pretty damn sure we can – but about how we’ll guide this together when we see some things quite differently.

As long as we’re looking in the direction of truth (we are) and are willing to look fresh (ditto) we can’t go wrong. Hell, we can’t go wrong anyway because “wrong” doesn’t exist.

I had a funny moment this morning:

I set up the Weekly Wildspire email that goes out every Tuesday so my assistant can do the formatting. It includes upcoming events (like Love Money!) along with links to my recent blog posts and videos.

I wrote a placeholder update on our Love Money launch as if it has already happened on time and we’ve had our first buyers.

At first it felt disingenuous. How dare I write a LIE?

Then I reminded myself that it’s a placeholder to be updated on Tuesday with whatever actually occurs between now and then. And isn’t it cool to write and enjoy the future I’d like to see?

That’s the secret to attracting money, by the way, at the heart of the book that inspired our course, Love Money, Money Loves You by Sarah Mccrum.

There’s one thing I’ve learned that serves me every single day, in business and in life:

It doesn’t matter what I think.

In the past 24 hours, I have judged my writing as crap and doubted my ability to share this. I have felt thought as insecurity, guilt, impatience and frustration.

Thoughts and feelings come, and none of it means anything. The feeling provides feedback on how I’m using my mind in the moment, and it has nothing to do with what I’m creating or what I should be doing — even when it really feels like it.

I can’t tell you the freedom I’ve found in seeing this.

Not believing what I think lets me follow my heart and inner wisdom, regardless of how I feel. It makes me unstoppable.

If that feels like too big of a nut to swallow, consider this:

What could you create if it really didn’t matter what you think?

Nothing would be off limits, because it wouldn’t matter if you thought it was possible. It wouldn’t matter what you’ve made up about other people. You’d be like Teflon to your stories of limitation and inadequacy.

It’s freaking awesome, and it’s available for every human who’s willing to take a look and check it out for themselves.

This is definitely going into the Love Money course.
