a goat and a turtle on a skateboard

The other day I shared the image of a goat on a skateboard.

Weird, right? The message was ostensibly a statement about choosing humor over outrage, but really…it was just plain fun.

And it got a response! (Which I love because sometimes it’s lonely over here on the other end of my keyboard.)

Tom Mattox sent me this video of Happie, who holds the Guinness World Record for longest skateboard ride by a goat.

And then came this cat-obsessed, skateboarding riding turtle.

My mind is blown.

“The goat of my dreams. sigh” I wrote back. “But the turtle isn’t my type. Not enough hair.”

Some might say this skateboarding animal related banter is a waste of time, but I don’t think so.

Maybe if I spent hours a day on it. But a few minutes for some hearty laughter and a mood boost? That’s a wise use of time in my book.

I remember when I first made the conscious choice to have fun in my business.

I was running Book More Brides and delivering a course on blogging. Each session included a moment of ridiculous fun. A (clean) limerick. A Mad Libs story.

It made me laugh, and took about two minutes.

Afterwards, I got this feedback:

“It’s great that you’re having fun, but I really don’t have time to waste. I’m here to learn.”

Really? You don’t have sixty seconds to get goofy?

I get that my sense of humor and love affair with dragons (and more recently, skateboarding goats) isn’t for everybody.

But fun is. Play is. Enjoyment is.

That’s the point of everything.

Why is it so easy to lose sight of what makes life worth living?

It reminds me of something that often happens in coaching.

There’s this moment where it gets very quiet. Still. Not the kind of silence that’s awkward, but the delicious silence you don’t want to disturb.

I remember this one time, sitting quietly on a zoom call with a client. We’re just gazing at each other, smiling.

After a few minutes, she says, “I keep thinking, ‘Aren’t we supposed to be doing something?’”

I admitted I’d had the same thought myself. Then said, “I think this is the best thing we could possibly be doing.”

We’ve been brainwashed into thinking our worth comes from how much we do.

I still get sucked in by those thoughts sometimes.

But I remember a conversation with my coach where we were laughing and enjoying ourselves. I had the thought, “I’m paying money for this. Shouldn’t we be doing something more productive?”

Then I realized…we were.

We were being. And that’s what we’re really here for.

Enjoyment is the portal to everything we seek.

We don’t need to rile ourselves up to solve the very real-seeming problems in our head. The creative solutions, the healing, the rest we need, all of it comes from this place. The lovely stillness untangles the knots of habitual thinking and provides the space we’ve been yearning for.

Yes, there can be a learning curve with this. Most of us are used to spinning in our heads, solving imaginary problems.

But when you get quiet, you come home. Right where you always wanted to be.

The more time you spend there, the more time you want to spend there.

That’s what we do inside the IMPACT membership.
That’s what we create together in every Being Unstoppable coaching conversation: a space to feel lighter, see clearly, and move with more ease and creativity.

If that sounds like something you could use right now, hit reply and let me know.

Enjoyment is right here.

Yours in love and play,

Steph
