A reflective woman with short natural hair sits in a warm, sunlit room, gently holding a plain white theatrical mask away from her face to reveal her true expression. Most of the creative entrepreneurs I know were motivated to start a business by the desire to help people and get paid for doing it.

It often feels like a calling.

And because they care so much about what they’re doing, they want to do it right.

So they take courses, hire business coaches, and follow the systems.

Little by little, they can end up drifting from their original heartfelt purpose. Their voice starts sounding like everyone else, and they end up with a business that doesn’t feel like them.

My latest podcast guest, Dr. Eboni Truss, found herself in that exact spot.

Years into a successful business, she realized she’d strayed from her original intention.

She calls the path back to herself unbecoming.

It’s not about creating a better version of yourself, but dropping all the things you learned you’re “supposed to do” so you can hear your own voice again.

It’s a beautiful conversation about purpose, business, trust, identity, and what happens when success itself becomes an invitation to start over.
