a woman looking at her laptopIt happened again.

I feel jealous.

It’s a weird experience for me, since I don’t normally feel jealous. Usually I get almost orgasmic joy from celebrating the accomplishments of others.

Except for every now and again, like last week.

I stumbled across another entrepreneur in the “kinder, gentler marketing” world. And they had it going on!

A clean, simple website.

A clear, compelling message.

I immediately understood who they serve and what they do.

One focus.

Damn. I wanted that.

And I recalled a similar jealous feeling a few weeks earlier about someone much newer to business than I am. They were attacking client creation with passion and single-minded devotion.

Oh, how I wished that were me.

Instead, I felt scattered. Messy. Changeable.

It bugged me that it bugged me, you know? I wanted to be better than that, but apparently I’m just too human.

So I took a moment to see the thought behind the feeling.

“You should be doing that, Stephanie,” it said. “That could be yours.”

And when I took a closer look, I laughed.

I don’t want that. If I did, I’d already be doing it.

I love having my fingers in multiple projects. I’m driven to live at the edge of what I’m seeing. I’m not refining my old point of view because I’m constantly expanding it.

I don’t want to do business like someone else, even someone I admire.

I want to do it my way. Even if it’s not neat and tidy. (It could be tidy if I truly wanted it to be.)

Here’s the message I needed to hear, in case maybe you might find it helpful, too.

It’s okay to feel jealous.

It’s okay to feel anything. Everything. It doesn’t mean what it feels like it does.

Feelings are completely irrelevant when it comes to how you want to live your life. You can listen to them. You can ignore them. Either way, they’ll pass.

And for those who seem to have what you desire, remember that every right path includes a bunch of wrong turns. Theirs and yours.

You’re allowed to be messy, make mistakes and change your mind.

You’re allowed to be – invited and celebrated to be – you.

And that’s not a consolidation prize. It’s the whole point. ✨️

Yours in love and play,

Steph 🐲❤️‍🔥
