My first $10,000 client was a milestone that came only weeks after the inspiration hit.
A friend of mine, beloved for his outrageousness, asked, “What can we do to create $10,000 in the next five minutes?”
After I got over my disbelief at the question (really?!?) I considered the impossible.
How could I make $10,000?
Well, I could create a $10,000 offer and propose it.
So that’s what I did, and within two weeks, I had my first $10,000 client.
My second $10,000 client didn’t come until two years later.
That time, I was inspired to have ten “$10,000 conversations.”
The idea was to explore with people what a conversation worth $10,000 would be like. (I charged something like $100 for some conversations and did others for free.)
From a seemingly unrelated source, my second $10,000 client appeared and paid in full.
What did both these experiences have in common?
#1 – I had an offer.
#2 – I invited people to take me up on it.
Money is all around us, only we don’t see it through the haze of fear and lack.
Each time I turned my attention to what it might take to create that kind of money and got inspired, I took action. Some of those actions bore fruit.
This year I have created my biggest offer yet: a 12 month Being Unstoppable Coaching & Mentorship Journey. It contains just about everything I’d be thrilled to give (or receive) and has a price tag to match.
Have I sold it yet? Nope, but I’ve proposed it to three people.
And one day, someone will say yes. It’s just a matter of time.
But here’s the milestone I’m most proud of:
For years I’ve been pussy-footing around asking someone if they want to hire me.
I’d say things like:
“Would you like to explore a coaching adventure with me?”
or
“Would you like to know what it would be like to work and play with me?”
I’d hide the numbers behind written proposals to avoid the tight throat and squirminess of asking outright.
Then one day I simply said, “Would you like to have a conversation about hiring me?”
No euphemisms. No beating around the bush. And no hesitation.
I managed to cover my own shock at what I’d said, and the person answered, “Yes. I’d love to.”
And we did.
That is my proudest pricing milestone.
My next milestone, which I can already feel, is inviting people to life-changing experiences with total clarity and nothing on it.
Like my little brother used to do when he made a game of asking for things.
At McDonalds: “Can I have two extra chicken nuggets with my order?”
At the grocery store: “Will you give me $1 off?”
Most people said no. But every once in a while, someone said yes.
Even the guy who asks every woman he fancies if she’d like to play hide the sausage gets lucky 1 out of every 20 times.
(Not knocking the guy’s sausage, but what you’ve offering is a lot more compelling.)
