How to Find Safety and Empowered Action

“I’ve got the responsibility, but I’ve got the freedom to act on it. I don’t rely on the outside world for my fulfillment and that’s empowering.” – Julie Temali

Julie undertook her homesteading journey to create a safe space for her family and build a world she believes in. She began taking responsibility by questioning her choices about water, food, sewage and energy consumption.

Her homesteading project is a “labor of love” that’s included:

  • A home renovation to reduce their energy consumption while maximizing comfort
  • Rainwater collecting and going toilet paper free
  • Solar panels for heating water and relying on their own power to live with the seasons
  • Launching a non-profit supermarket with 80% local products and managed as a collective
  • The next step: creating a garden for produce, medicinal herbs and flowers for both health and beauty

Initially, Julie’s sustainable actions were motivated by fear, until she recognized that 100% of her emotional experience was coming from the inside, not the external world. She came back into alignment with herself, found peace and the empowerment to act on what she can do to make a difference. When you shine light on emotions, it’s just information.

“I had to come to MY truth and build what makes me happy, what feels right. No right, no wrong, just the internal compass of ‘this feels right to me.’” – Julie Temali

Taking care of the planet without fear comes from recognizing our connection to all of life. Julie discovered the part of her that can never be hurt and an awareness that life is so much bigger than us. She speaks of a “conversation” between you and the universe; it’s your job to name your needs, and the universe will meet them.

Making money is a game; if one source of income is drying up, it’s an invitation to see where life is taking you now. The opportunities in Julie’s life never came from “marketing,” but from relationships and random conversations. When you plant seeds from your heart, they grow. Sometimes it takes some time to see the results, but your needs are met by what you naturally do in the world.

Looking within gives you the answers. The inner compass makes things simpler and easier to navigate with confidence.

“Something that can seem dark, when you put light on it, it’s not so scary anymore.” – Julie Temali

Meet Julie Temali

After living abroad and witnessing the hidden consequences of our current economic system outsourced to foreign countries, Julie Temali went on a quest for purpose working for 10 years in sustainability and social entrepreneurship in Europe and Africa.

She experienced how little we know about how to work together toward a shared objective, and that led her to launch her own company to support organizations in succeeding in their sustainable initiatives.

Then COVID hit, putting an end to her venture, and she came to the conclusion that the entire economic paradigm had to change in order to transition toward a sustainable world. Julie embarked on a journey of self-discovery, questioning every part of her life and starting to live it her way,  aligned with who she is and what she stands for.

She now continues this journey of trying to live her truth by renovating her family’s home in an eco-friendly way, homesteading in a modern way, and getting involved in her community by running a non-profit supermarket. She also mentors entrepreneurs to build not only a business but a lifestyle aligned with who they are and how they want to contribute to the world.
