I need to tell you about a looming problem.
One you probably don’t see coming.
As much as it burdens me to be the bearer of this news, I feel it is my duty, my obligation, possibly even my calling to prepare you.
The world is about to experience an epidemic of unexpected joy.
I know. It’s serious.
At any moment, without warning, you may find yourself…happy. For no apparent reason.
You may have random encounters with strangers who feel like friends.
You may fall deeply in love with the moment you’re in, even when absolutely nothing extraordinary seems to be happening.
There is a mysterious source of this contagion.
And unfortunately, it begins in one human heart.
Yours.
Because the moment you move toward something that draws you for no particular reason…
The moment you pick up a pen. Or put your fingers on your computer keyboard. Or open your mouth to share a loving word…
The joy is already there.
In fact, it’s already spreading.
Now, there are people who will tell you this isn’t real. They’ll say this so-called “joy epidemic” is fabricated. Wishful thinking.
But they’re wrong.
Because everywhere I go, I see it.
Brilliant people doing their best.
Small moments of kindness sparking something alive and generous between us.
People recognizing each other as human.
It’s already begun, and it’s growing. You’re already part of it; you just might not have noticed yet.
So let me make it obvious.
There’s a very simple way you can accelerate the spread of this highly contagious joy.
It’s called the DragonHeart Quest, and it’s almost absurdly simple.
Take 10 minutes.
Create something small.
A doodle.
A poem.
A lopsided cupcake.
A tiny sculpture made from the clutter on your desk.
Something that delights you.
And then give it to someone who isn’t expecting it.
That’s it.
That’s how the contagion spreads.
One small act. One unexpected moment. One human to another.
And if you want, you can come tell me about it so we can count your ripple as one of the 10,000 moments of unexpected joy.
Side effects may include:
- Spontaneous smiling
- Warm fuzzies toward other humans
- A strange desire to create things for no good reason
You’ve been forewarned.
