I’ve been having a good chuckle with my dragon friends while reading your delightful answers to the optional just-for-fun questions in my survey.
I think I might write a story inspired by some of them. I mean, how often does a girl have the chance to write about…
…a Dragon Pearl
…Glinda’s bubble
…The Voynich Manuscript
…and eating grilled cheese on a yacht?
But the answer to one question touched my heart.
I asked: Which of these instructions would improve your life the most?
71% of respondents answered:
Rest before you’ve earned it.
It reminds me of a simple, profound bit of advice I heard last year from Dr. Bill Petit.
He’s in his eighties and still travels to conferences and coaching retreats. When asked what makes the biggest difference to his peace of mind, his answer was simple.
Rest.
He puts rest above all else. Only then can he show up for his commitments. Only then can he live with the peace and contentment he desires.
We think rest is something to be earned. But what if rest comes first, before we “need” it?
Rest isn’t slacking. It’s nourishment. Care.
The deepest rest we crave comes from a quiet mind. A rested body follows.
And now, a sorta-poem inspired by my muses.
Rest.
Rest before you’ve earned it.
Cease this endless working.
Stop living the lie of “it must be hard.”
Let it be easy.
Let it be easeful.
Let it be restful.
Rest in the stillness of nothing to do.
You are the darling of the wilds.
You are the laughing brook.
The cool breeze in the woods.
The delight of being barefoot in the grass.
Give to yourself the desires of your heart.
Rest and say yes.
It’s not too late to share your most honest and absurd feedback in my survey.
You have 24 hours before it closes here: https://forms.gle/q8WENDYLKkDXySsD8
As a thank you, everyone who takes the survey will get two free gifts, including a ticket to Odyssey 2026: The Antidote to New Year’s Resolutions on January 15th.
Thanks for being here with me.
Yours in love and play,
