Over the summer in LA I bought a Reishi mushroom cappuccino for $10. I loved it! Every sip felt like a tiny luxury.
An hour later I rented a metro bike for a few miles because I didn’t want to pay $30 for an Uber.
It was the same day and the same wallet. Yet in one moment I was luxuriating in overpriced coffee, and the next bitching about overpriced transportation.
That little scene illustrates what I want to say about coaching and price.
The value of something is not a fixed, objective thing. It changes with the situation and mood of the moment because it’s made up of thought.
“Is this worth it?” is a question that can get a different answer every time, and keep you hung up in knots.
A better question:
“Do I want to spend my money on this right now?” Yes or no.
So when someone says, “I don’t have the money for coaching,” or “It’s too expensive,” my first response is: fair. Maybe.
But also…maybe you just don’t know what you don’t know.
Coaching is not a cup of coffee. It’s not a course you buy and download.
It’s a sacred container, a space that’s entirely yours, where things that haven’t shown up anywhere else (ever) have permission to be seen.
For me, some of the richest, deepest, most life-changing insights came from one-on-one coaching conversations.
That’s why over the past 10 years I’ve invested well over $100,000 (maybe closer to $200,000) in coaching experiences for myself.
That’s not a humblebrag. It’s evidence that coaching works for me. And for so many people I’ve worked with.
If you’re thinking, “I can figure this out by myself,” I believe you can.
I also believe that sometimes the fastest, clearest, most generative way to be the change you desire is to hire the person who helps you see what you’re not seeing, and to create space to explore that new way of being until it lands.
So here’s a kinder, simpler invitation instead of the usual price debate:
If you’ve been thinking someday you might work with me, and you haven’t actually asked what that would look like, financially and practically…
…you don’t yet have the information to make the choice.
You’re deciding in the dark.
If there’s something in your life you want to change or create, and you have a sense I might be a good partner for that work, let’s talk.
There’s no pressure and nothing to prove. Let’s just explore what’s possible and whether the investment makes sense for you right now.
If you’d like a conversation about coaching (what it looks like with me, what the outcomes might be, and what the real investment is) book a curiosity call here.
I’d love to explore what’s possible with you.
Yours in love and play,
Steph
