This morning as I took Jake for a walk down the streets of Tavira, I noticed a coin on the sidewalk.
Pick it up, a gentle voice inside me said.
I glanced at the men drinking their espressos outside the cafe and felt silly. Who stops to pick up a penny? What if it belonged to one of them?
I kept walking, still feeling the pull. Pick up the coin.
Jake and I looped back around, and when we reached the cafe, I stooped to pick up the 10 cent coin and noticed another 1 cent coin nearby.
I cradled the coins in my hand on the way back to the apartment.

Why did I pick up the coin?
My mind can concoct all sorts of reasons. It symbolizes openness to receiving money. It brings coins back into circulation. It’s litter on the sidewalk.
But the real reason I picked it up is because I knew to do it.
Life feels clearer and simpler to me these days. The most reliable navigation, for everything from strolling the neighborhood to building my business, is what I know to do and what I actually want to do.
Everything else is irrelevant. Every other thought, even the beautiful ones, are meaningless.
What do I want? What do I know?
That’s enough.
Moving from that awareness is how I want to live.
Stooping to pick up a coin didn’t initiate any grand transformation in my life, but the willingness to follow what I know revolutionizes my experience.
You’re no longer creating life based on past conditioning or my assumptions about others. You’re living from the feeling of aliveness in this moment, guided by the simple experience of desire and knowing.

- What do I actually want?
- What do I know to do?
