a man holding a paper lanternI’m not the best coach in the world, but I am very, very good at one thing…

(No, it’s not the art of the humble brag. Although I’m working on that. 😉)

I’m very good at feeling what you really want.

I’m listening to your words, but more importantly, listening to your soul. Because your soul is always broadcasting what you’d love to create.

It shows when your face lights up, and in that shy smile of delight.

The other day I was speaking with an artist and coach who clearly doesn’t want to do anything “coachy.” And yet her message was sounding a bit blah and forgettable.

Until we started talking.

Out popped her feisty spirit and contrarian views with the perfect language to reach the audience she wants to attract.

How did we get there?

I asked what she wanted. Really wanted. What she wants to create. The work she loves to do. The community she wants to be a part of. It all came tumbling out.

And sometimes, it shows in the things you don’t say.

Another conversation with a new connection who was telling me about the business models they’re considering, the low-ticket to high ticket conversion, the niche targeting…

I was listening; it was all head and no heart.

Until he mentioned his rubber chicken. Improv. Roleplaying.

His soul was practically singing!

It was exactly the medicine his project was missing. The secret to turning their business into something truly remarkable was unleashing their quirkiness and making it the path of marketing.

This is the pattern:

People tell me what they think they should want, and then, accidentally, they reveal what they actually want.

Someone asked me recently:

“Why is what I want so important?”

Because if you ignore it, you create a life that doesn’t feel like yours.

Your desires, your wants, your dreams, they’re not random. They are the most reliable compass for creating the life you love. It’s not a trick. It’s the design.

No one sees the world the way you do. No one else can create what you’re moved to create.

Releasing your dreams sets your energy free. But if you keep those desires locked away, or refuse to acknowledge them, you end up with a life lived by other people’s rules. One that doesn’t feel like yours.

So this is where I loe to start:

“What do you want? Really?”

It’s the thing that lights you up. Or makes you squirm. Sometimes a bit of both.

It feels too big. Too much. Maybe a little dangerous.

It’s 100% yours and the most rewarding thing you can ever do.

If you want help finding it and actually moving on it…
