I had two online conversations today that were basically the same conversation.
Two different people in different situations, but the same pattern.
The first was a replay to one of my daily emails:
“I want to stop waiting to feel ready to set up my online business —messily, imperfectly, but taking action and no longer staying stuck.
The baby step I can do is to set up a calendar booking and payment system on my website. I’ve been putting it off because: 1. Tech fears, 2. What if I’m inundated?”
The second was a comment on a post I wrote in an entrepreneur community:
“I am a pole dance dropout. Not really a drop out but lost my motivation. I want to go back so bad.
I’m also feeling this push and pull about moving forward with what I’m doing. I have lots of doubt and I know I just need to believe I can do this.”
While the context of these situations is different, the resistance is the same. The push-pull dynamic, feeling like I want to do this thing, but not doing it.
FEAR.
The deliciously irritating push/pull that keeps us putting on the brake when we really want to accelerate.
Here’s what I’d tell both of them.
You don’t have to believe you can do it.
You just have to do the next thing.
Belief is optional. Confidence is optional. Readiness is optional.
Action is not.
Heck, I don’t “believe” I can pull off many of the things I’m doing these days. I just take one step at a time and see what happens.
And something interesting happens…
Clarity shows up. Natural confidence arises. Momentum builds.
Not before taking action, but after.
Fear can feel so damn convincing. Meanwhile, it’s a shadow puppet on the wall pretending to be Godzilla.
Take action anyway. Fear can’t hurt you, and it can’t stop you. (Only your agreement with it can do that.)
If you’re feeling that push/pull right now, you don’t need to bolster your confidence or find the perfect plan.
Just take one small, imperfect action.
And if you’d ever enjoy a chat to move your dream forward, I have DragonHeart Portal conversations and
The Dreaming for that. ✨️
Yours in love and play,
